Via de e-mail ontving ik een open uitnodiging voor de Yicca 2024 Art Prize.
Yicca Project Network is een voor mij onbekende organisatie die mij blijkbaar op enige manier toch heeft gevonden.
De open uitnodiging betreft een wedstrijd voor hedendaagse kunst.

Bovenstaande tekst stond in de e-mail die ik ontving en komt enigszins schreeuwerig over en toch heb ik de website van Yicca even bezocht om te kijken of het wat is.
Zoals bij de inleiding van dit blogbericht al is aangegeven, is het Yicca Project Network een nieuwe organisatie voor mij.
Uit de informatie die op de website vermeld staat, is het een stichting die zich al 15 jaar in de kunstwereld begeeft en als doel heeft om nieuw kunsttalent te begrijpen en daar waar mogelijk te verbeteren:
“YICCA was founded in 2009.
The decision of its foundation was taken under the great influence of new ways of making and thinking about art that recently has discovered many surprising and unusual forms.
Our main goal is to understand and to improve new artistic talents that are able to interpret better this upcoming art.”
Eén van de dingen die georganiseerd wordt door de stichting is het regelmatig uitschrijven van wedstrijden voor hedendaagse kunst, waarbij elke discipline meetelt, van beeldhouwen tot en met fotografie.
Op de website van de wedstrijd staat het reglement te lezen.
Het voert te ver om alle artikelen uit het reglement hier op te sommen (dat zijn er 14), maar het meest in het oog springende zijn:
“Art. 1
MISSION
The competition’s aim is to promote the enrolled artist, giving them chance to join the international market of contemporary art.
This aim will be pursued by taking advantage of the opportunities that the contest offers:
Euro 3000,00 (three thousand/00) money prize to the first selected
Euro 1000,00 (one thousand/00) money prize to the second selected
exhibit the selected artworks in a exhibition space, determined by competition.
improvement of the relationship between finalists and critics, curators, gallery owners, public and private art institutions that will have access to this important exhibition.
maximum visibility through the advertising campaign that will follow the competition and all its stages
the works of selected artists will be published on “YICCA” catalogue which will be distributed free of charge to the finalists and will be available for professionals and institutions invited during the inauguration of the event.”
Met deelname aan de wedstrijd wordt dus kans gemaakt op geldprijzen van €1.000 tot €3.000 en tevens wordt er gekeken naar versteviging van de band tussen de finalisten, curatoren,
galeriehouders en publieke en privé instituten.

De deadline van insturen is 11 april.

JURY
The jury will select 18 artists for the final exhibition.
De jury zal in totaal 18 kunstenaars selecteren voor de uiteindelijke expositie die in september 2024 in Venetië zal gaan plaatsvinden.
Art. 6
WINNERS SELECTION
Selected artists will be contacted for the preparation and submission of material for the final catalogue as well as for the preparation and submission of the works immediately after the subscriptions deadline.
Aan de winnende kunstenaars zal worden gevraagd om de geselecteerde kunstwerken voor te bereiden voor de expositie en publicatie in de catalogus.
Art. 6.1
MONEY PRIZE WINNERS’ SELECTION MECHANISM
Money prize winners will be elected in accordance with their artworks overall rating, assigned by the jury, the association and the gallery that will host the exhibition.
The range of the rating scale is from 1 to 10 points.
Rating system is formed in the following ratio:1/3 of the score is given by the jury, 1/3 by A.p.s. Moho Association and 1/3 by the gallery.
Each juror will give a score from 1 to 10 per each artwork. Then we will take the average score given by all jurors that will represent 1/3 of the total score.
The association will give a score from 1 to 10 per each artwork and it will be 1/3 of the total score.
The gallery will give a score from 1 to 10 per each artwork and it will represent 1/3 of the total score.
Hierboven wordt uitgelegd hoe de score tot stand wordt gebracht.
De score die gegeven wordt is van 1 tot en met 10 punten.
Elk jurylid geeft elke kunstwerk een score tussen 1 en 10 punten.
Van alle juryleden samen wordt het gemiddelde bepaald.
Dit telt voor 1/3 mee in de totaalscore.
De vereniging bepaalt ook voor 1/3 de score en dat geldt ook voor de galerie waar de kunstwerken uiteindelijk in expositie komen.
Alle overige artikelen zijn na te lezen op de website van Yicca of hier te downloaden als PDF-bestand.
In ieder geval ziet het er naar mijn idee interessant genoeg uit om aan deel te gaan nemen.
Wordt waarschijnlijk vervolgd.
