Gisteren ontving ik in de e-mail onverwachts een open uitnodiging voor de Berlin Art Award 2024.
Vandaag heb ik me hiervoor aangemeld.
In de e-mail van gisteren stond dat het aanmelden voor deze internationale prijs, volledig gratis is en dat er ook nog geen werk opgestuurd hoeft te worden.
Een link naar het Instagram account en/of de website is voldoende.
Het is vervelend dat mijn Instagram account niet bijgewerkt is, doordat ik al bijna drie maanden niet kan inloggen op mijn account (maar dat is weer een heel ander verhaal).
Aan het eind van de middag heb ik, samen met Merlin en haar moeder, de kunstbeurs EuropArtFair Amsterdam bezocht waar drie foto’s van Merlin op een videoscherm te zien zijn.
Daarover in een later blogbericht meer.
Vanzelfsprekend hebben we ook de rest van de kunstbeurs bekeken en ik heb werkelijk prachtige kunst gezien.
Het heeft me in ieder geval weer flink geïnspireerd en als het zo weinig moeite kost om je bij de Berlin Art Award organisatie aan te melden, dan zou je wel gek zijn om dat niet te doen, nietwaar?
In de e-mail die ik gisteren had ontvangen, stond een link waarop je je kon aanmelden.
Dus heb ik vanavond, na terugkomst uit Amsterdam, de aanmelding gedaan bij de Berlin Art Award.
En inderdaad: je hoeft niet meer op te geven dan een Instagram account en/of website.
Maar, nadat ik dat had gedaan, zag ik dat er speciaal voor fotografen ook een mogelijkheid was om je aan te melden.
Wat ik nu had gedaan was me aanmelden als algemeen kunstenaar.
Daarom heb ik dat nog een keer gedaan, maar dan als fotograaf.
Ik heb direct de organisatie van de Berlin Art Award op de hoogte gebracht van deze, ongetwijfeld niet bijzonder grote, fout.

Bij de e-mail die ik heb gestuurd, heb ik een aantal foto’s en mijn uitgebreide bio meegestuurd (ondanks dat daar bij de aanmelding niet om gevraagd wordt).
Na de eerste aanmelding, als kunstenaar, kreeg ik al wel direct een bevestiging terug dat de aanmelding in goede orde is ontvangen.

Uit deze e-mail valt tevens op te maken dat er binnen 12 werkdagen een reactie komt vanuit de organisatie of mijn werk goed genoeg is om in aanmerking te komen voor de Berlin Art Award.
Hierover staan op de website van hen de criteria te lezen:
“To assess the quality and diversity of the artistic works submitted for the Berlin Art Award fairly and comprehensively, our jury has established eight specific evaluation criteria.
These criteria have been carefully selected to ensure that every facet of the submitted artworks is considered.
They allow the jury to make a well-founded and fair evaluation of all submitted works.
Each criterion reflects an important aspect of artistic work and helps to recognize and honor the outstanding talents and visions that enrich the contemporary art scene.
We look forward to experiencing the impressive and inspiring works presented in this competition.”

This criterion assesses how original and unique the artwork is. The focus is on whether the work presents its own innovative ideas and concepts that distinguish it from others. - Technical Skill & Execution
Evaluation of the craftsmanship and technical quality of the artwork. This includes attention to precision, technique, and mastery of the chosen medium. - Conceptual Depth
Assessment of the depth and intellectuality of the concept behind the artwork. This includes how well the work addresses and reflects thematic or philosophical questions. - Emotional Impact
Evaluation of the emotional resonance that the artwork evokes in the viewer. A powerful artwork can elicit a wide range of emotions or provoke thought. - Artistic Expression
This criterion assesses how well the artist can articulate their intentions and the meaning of the work. This helps deepen the understanding and relevance of the work. - Degree of Innovation & Creativity
his criterion considers how the artist transcends traditional boundaries and uses new creative solutions or approaches in their work. - Presentation & Overall Impression
How professionally is the artwork presented? The overall impression can also include the layout, integration into the exhibition space, and interaction with the audience. - Jury Reaction
Ultimately, what matters is the lasting impression your work leaves. Convince us with your overall concept and leave a lasting impact.
Dat zijn dus nog best wel wat criteria waar naar wordt gekeken.
De tijd zal het leren of mijn werk aan deze criteria voldoet.
Binnen de komende 12 werkdagen zal hierover uitsluitsel worden gegeven.
Wat er daarna volgt is nog niet duidelijk, maar dat zal ongetwijfeld het officieel inzenden van mijn werk zijn.
