Vandaag heb ik een foto van Anoek ingezonden voor de European Photography Awards 2022.
De European Photography Awards, georganiseerd door International Awards Associate (IAA) en gesetteld in New York, is een internationale wedstrijd voor fotografen, zowel amateur als professional.
Een paar dagen geleden heb ik de aanmelding voor de wedstrijd gedaan en moest ik nog beslissen welke foto ik voor de wedstrijd zou gaan insturen.
Net als bij de vorige twee wedstrijden van deze organisatie waar ik eerder aan heb meegedaan, de Muse Photography Awards en de London Photography Awards, zijn er nog wel wat stappen te doorlopen voordat de foto ook daadwerkelijk meedoet aan de wedstrijd.
Maar als dat uiteindelijk tot hetzelfde resultaat leidt als bij de voorgaande twee keer (een foto van Merlin 2x goud en 2x zilver en een foto van Antonia 2x goud) dan is dat alle moeite ook zeker wel waard.
Bij de aanmelding had ik de meer algemene zaken al in gevuld, zoals mijn naam en dergelijke, maar nu moest ik aangeven voor welke categorie en subcategorie ik de foto wilde insturen.
En dat is een lange lijst van maar liefst 12 categorieën, die elk weer onderverdeeld zijn in subcategorieën.
Van de twaalf categorieën zijn er in principe drie van toepassing op de foto van Anoek die ik heb ingestuurd: Fine Art Photography (subcategorieën Fashion, People en Portrait), People Photography (subcategorieën Fine Art, Portrait en Children) en Commercial Photography (subcategorie Fashion).
Na flink dubben is de foto Anoek (0319) ingeschreven voor de volgende categorieën en subcategorieën:
Commercial Photography – Fashion
People Photography – Children
Het volgende onderdeel was relatief makkelijk, namelijk welke specificaties de foto heeft (ISO, sluitertijd, diafragma, en met welke camera gemaakt).
In het volgende onderdeel van de aanmelding wordt gevraagd om de omschrijving van het project en wordt zichtbaar voor iedereen wanneer de foto mocht winnen.
“Anoek is an aspiring young Dutch model who started shooting with me in April 2019 and this photo is of the third shoot we did together. The photo was shot in an ice cream parlour where one of the walls is covered with pink feathers. In the preparation the mother of Anoek told me Anoek would wear a pink suit which matches the pink background perfectly. And it suits!”
Daaronder opnieuw een invulveld, maar nu specifiek voor de jury; die tekst zal niet op de winnaarspagina verschijnen (mocht de foto winnen).
Hier kon dezelfde tekst worden ingevuld met een aanvulling waar ik geen gebruik van heb gemaakt.
Dan toch eindelijk het moment om de foto te uploaden.
Op dezelfde pagina moest ook nog worden aangegeven wie er aan de foto heeft meegewerkt, waarbij ik mezelf nog een keer moest noemen en natuurlijk Anoek als model.
Als laatste kon de knop verzenden worden ingedrukt en nu is de foto dus, op de dag van de deadline, in competitie.
De jury van de wedstrijd bestaat uit een veertiental.
Bij de beoordeling wordt gelet op de volgende dingen (te vinden op de website van de organisatie):
Judges score on a scale of 1-100, based on the below criteria.
- Originality (Uniqueness of Concept / Expression of Theme)
- Creativity / Story / Mood
- Technical Execution (Composition, Color, Lighting, Exposure and Focus)
- Marketability / Newsworthiness / Current or Potential Social Impact
- Overall Impression / Wow! Factor / Memorable
Entries receiving an average score under 60 do not receive an award.
The European Photography Awards and International Awards Associate’s decisions are final in its sole discretion and binding in relation to all matters relating to Competitions and may not be subject to any discussions or correspondence.
Judging is blind.
All entrant information is removed from entries to prevent bias/conflict of interest.
European Photography Awards judging process is designed to be impartial and free from outside influences by withholding both the names of the judges on its panel as well as the contestant’s names throughout the entire evaluation process.
Both judge and contestant names are withheld until after award winning entries are selected.
This anonymity shelters all involved from any vested interest which may attempt to influence the judges’ opinions or the judging process.
Hoe worden de winnaars dan bepaald?
Entries are judged at random without comparison to other entries in a category.
Amateur/student photographers are not compared to Professional Photographers in the same category.
To ensure high standards of high quality, a category may have multiple winners or no winners.
Work is critiqued rated by consensus, with the panel of judges determining a rating on a scale of 100 points.
There are FIVE (5) levels of achievement in the competition:
European Photographer of the Year
Category Winners of the Year (12 Categories)
Platinum Winners (85-100 points)
Gold Winners (60-84 points)
Honourable Mentions (50-59 points)
The number of awards presented by European Photography Awards is determined by the number of submissions in a given category, the scoring range and the number of tie scores.
De definitieve uitslag van de wedstrijd wordt op 9 september bekend gemaakt. Daarvoor komt nog een zogenaamde Early Result uitslag, maar wanneer deze gepland staat is niet bekend.
Ik ben benieuwd of de foto van Anoek ook goud kan behalen of wellicht Platinum.
